Musically omnivorous, ETHEL infuses their sound with rock, blues, classical, jazz and other popular genres to create a sound that defies categorization. Comprised of four world-class, Julliard-trained composers and musicians, they have been described by The Boston Globe as playing “contemporary chamber music with the raucous energy of a bar band.” Since forming in 1998, New-York based ETHEL has performed over 300 shows in 10 different countries featuring commissioned works, classical songs, and their own original compositions. While on stage, ETHEL utilizes amplification and improvisation to create energetic and engaging performances for audiences of all stripes. In addition to their touring schedule, members of ETHEL have collaborated with some of today’s most compelling artists, including Sheryl Crow, Gorillaz, Roger Daltrey, Yo-Yo Ma, Ornette Coleman, and Lenny Kravitz.
